42' Classic Monk McQueen Aft Cabin Sedan 42' Monk McQueen Aft Cabin Sunbridge - 1957 - $54,900

George McQueen, one of the founding fathers of yacht building in the Vancouver
area and patriarch of McQueen Yachts, was widely known for his commitment to
excellence - it could be seen in every detail of a Monk McQueen yacht. Combine
this level of quality with the religious dedication of McQueen owners and many
of these vessels look as good today as the day they were built.

Here is a perfect example of such a boat and a real find for you classic wooden
boat lovers out there. 'Kalua' is a one-of-a-kind Monk McQueen aft cabin sedan,
built in 1957 and owned by the same family since the 1960s. It was one of the
first vessels built in BC with such 'modern' features as a step-down galley and
full size shower in the master head. She has always been boathouse kept and as
a result she is in exceptional condition and has been kept as original as possible,
both inside and out.

Recent upgrades include all new AC electrical system from the shore power plug
to interior power outlets (2011), 3 new 8D 12 volt house batteries (2011), new
propane supply line (2011), rebuilt trim tabs (2010), full propeller service (2010),
professional bonding system service (2010), all new tankage (2009), new risers
on engines (2009), new Crusader short blocks (1998), bottom refastened
and recaulked (1998).

We have been holding off putting this web page back up because we were hoping to get a stretch of sunny weather that would allow us to take some pictures of the boat in the sunshine. Kalua is finished inside and out in top quality mahogany and when the sun is shining, the wood finish radiates a rich red glow which absolutely transforms this vessel. Unfortunately, as this is being written, the snowline seems to be getting lower rather than higher and elusive promises of sunshine never seem to materialize. As a number of you have requested that we repost the webpage with the existing photos taken in the boathouse, we have done so. Once the weather has shifted into a pattern that holds more regular promise of sunshine, we will get a new set of pictures posted.

So lets go for a quick tour. Although there are sliding half doors on each side of the salon, the main entry is through the cockpit. And with a nice wide swim grid and a transom door, you don't have to be an Olympic athlete to climb aboard. Slide the richly finished mahogany door to port, two steps down and you are in a very spacious aft cabin with single berths both port and starboard. Up forward in the aft cabin is a large ensuite bathroom complete with full size shower. Lots of storage drawers and a huge hanging locker/linen closet make plenty of room for storage on those extended cruises.

In the forward starboard corner of the aft cabin is the companionway to the wonderfully open and bright salon with a large step down galley in the forward starboard corner. The lower or main helm station is located directly across from the galley on the port side. To the rear of the salon in the port corner is a big comfortable hide-a-bed sofa and teak coffee table. To starboard of the sofa is the stairway leading to the bridge deck which really is the place to be on a sunny day.

The bridge deck has a simple but elegant look with original windshield to cut the breeze and the upper helm tucked neatly in the port forward corner. There is a very classy bench seat to the rear that runs the full width of the bridge and two smaller bench seats, a single next to the helm station and a double on the starboard side. On sunny summer days this is always the social center of the boat.

Back down below and forward of the galley is a very well designed private guest cabin with a single lower berth to port and a double upper to starboard. Lots of beautiful mahogany cabinets and drawers for storage and a private head make this a very comfortable guest cabin.

Kalua has the regal bearing of a classic yacht that makes all of us want to go boating in style. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is seriously interested in acquiring a well maintained custom built Monk McQueen. Vessel was surveyed, painted and zinced in late 2010 so she is ready to go boating whenever you are. She is currently moored in a RVYC boathouse so a buyer will have to locate new moorage and this is something we would be happy to help with.
