28' Brandlmayr Express Cruiser 28' Brandlmayr Express Cruiser - 1962/2005 - $18,900

As is mentioned in the commentary for the 30' Monk Sedan in our listings, if
you are looking for a nice old classic wood boat, your best bet is to buy one
that someone else has poured their heart and soul into. 'Our Time' is a boat
that fits description to a tee. The current owners spent just over $32,000 on
a major restoration in 2005 at one of the best known small shipyards here on
Vancouver Island - Abernethy & Gaudin Boatbuilders Ltd. in Brentwood Bay.
Details of that restoration can be found in a copy of the invoice. For all
intents and purposes the boat is good for another 40 to 50 years as long as
she continues to find herself in the hands of responsible owners.

The boat was designed by John Brandlmayr, a naval architect working out of
Vancouver, whose designs are often overlooked by wooden boat enthusiasts.
It was a custom design based on the boating needs of the Lineham family
who commissioned the boat. She was built by Jim Dryburgh of D & L Boat
Works in Sidney and he was helped out on a regular basis by Ken Lineham
and his sons. The Lineham family owned the boat for 30 years and were
always impressed by her general handling ease and seakeeping ability.

Why don't we take a look around so you can get an idea of how simple this vessel is on the one hand, and how elegant she is on the other. The first thing that strikes you when you approach the boat are the very clean lines, a trademark of all Brandlmayr designs. Once up close you can see the wonderful craftmanship throughout the boat reflected in the teak main deck, side decks and cockpit sole. Climb into the roomy cockpit and you will discover why the current owners love the boat so much. In the summer you can lay out the two teak lounge chairs and just spend the day soaking up the sun and swimming. The dinghy conveniently clips to the swim grid so if you want to row ashore, it is right there waiting for you. And if the sun gets to be a little too much, you can raise one or both of the two parasols mounted on the transom to keep you cool.

The cockpit has five hatches that offer full access to the engine and storage below deck. Up forward on the port side of the cockpit is the helm station and opposite on the starboard side is the first mate's seat. And there is a canvas and acrylic Alaska bulkhead that can be dropped down to close off the forward area of the cockpit when there is a chill in the air or if it starts to rain.

Three steps down into the main cabin and on the port side you will find a very simple galley with lots of storage and counter space but no permanent stove. In order to reduce their insurance premium, the current owners opted to remove the two burner propane stove and stick to barbequing out on the back deck. If they need to cook anything that can't be done on the barbeque, they use a portable one burner butane camp stove

Across from the galley is a surprisingly roomy head that is also set up for showering. Just forward of the head is a dinette that converts to a double berth. Directly across from the dinette is nice comfortable settee that can do double duty as a child's berth. And right up forward is a very large v-berth with air mat under the cushions to prevent the development of mould. For comfort and safety there is also an opening hatch above the v-berth.

Our Time was designed as a very simple vessel for taking the family out cruising back in the days when the goal of boating was to escape the trappings of modern life. It did this in a memorable fashion for the original owners over the course of three decades. With a major restoration behind her, Our Time is capable of offering the same wonderful boating experiences to her new owners for a long time to come
